2007 Advocacy Opportunities The
Peace & Justice Committee is pleased to announce the following upcoming
advocacy opportunities which may be of interest to members and friends of the
Presbytery of Baltimore: Sunday, January 28th: There
will be an interfaith vigil of
commemoration and commitment to
peace at 4pm at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Baltimore (at the
corner of St. Paul and University Parkway). Members of the Peace and Justice
Committee of the Presbytery have been in on the planning of this event from
the ground floor. The vigil will commemorate the U.S. service persons and
Iraqi civilians killed and/or wounded in Iraq (more).
Children are welcome to attend. The vigil will last less than one hour. Monday, February 26th: “Presbyterians in Annapolis
Day” will be an opportunity for people in the Presbytery to learn
how to become effective voices to their delegates and senators. The evening
will begin at 4:00pm at the Naval Academy Stadium parking lot. Attendees will
learn how to catch the free shuttle to the government buildings from the
Naval Academy Stadium lot, tour various government buildings and learn how to
navigate the buildings via the tunnels. A dinner will be served to
participants and will be accompanied by a presentation by Julie Erickson
about the legislative priorities of the Presbytery of Baltimore. Those in
attendance will also learn how to make arrangements to meet with their
representatives; those who notify Julie Erickson in advance may have the
opportunity to meet with their own state delegate or senator on the evening
of the 26th. The General Assembly convenes at 8:00pm; all are
welcome to stay and observe the session. All events are free of charge;
however, reservations are required for meal planning purposes. Contact the Presbytery office to you’re your

letter. Friday, March 16th: Mark your calendars for the Christian Witness for Peace Vigil at
the National Cathedral in Washington, DC beginning at 7:00pm, followed by a
candlelight procession to the White House. More details will be published as

Memorial Woodbrook PC is seeking a F/T Director of Christian Education (more). Cumberland
PC is seeking a pastor. CIF now
accessible via the Presbytery site (more). Plans
are underway to charter the newest
church in our Presbytery, St. Andrew's
NCD in Mount Airy! Pending the approval of Presbytery at its next stated
meeting, an Administrative Commission plans to visit the church for a special
time of worship, chartering, and installation at 10:00 a.m. on Jan. 28th. The
service will be held at the American Legion Post 191 at 801 Prospect Rd. in
Mount Airy. Sessions are invited to send a representative to attend the
celebration. There
will be an interfaith vigil of commemoration
on Sunday, January 28th at 4pm at the Cathedral of the Incarnation
in Baltimore (more).
The
Big Event 2007 will be on February 17th – that’s
right around the corner! Check out the web

posters and more are available at churches and the Presbytery offices. Registration
materials are available for the 2007
Presbytery High School Youth Retreat at Camp Wo-me-to from March 16th
– 18th. The theme will be “Back to the Future: Finding
your Place in Life with Christ”. Forms are posted on our website.

available for undergraduate students from the PC(USA).

youth are challenged to Stir it Up for Souper
Bowl of Caring 2007 to raise $1.4 million to fight hunger. Stir it up to
show you care! So far 2,400 groups have registered to participate on February
4, 2007. More information: www.souperbowl.org. On
Saturday, January 27th there will be a peace rally in Washington, DC, to end the war in Iraq. Bus transportation
will be available departing from Stony Run Friends Meeting at 9:00am (more). The (National) Cathedral College of Preachers (www.cathedralcollege.org)
is offering "The City of God for
American Cities: Reinventing the Urban Church" with Douglass Bailey,
Jim Forbes, and Barbara Brown Taylor, June 2nd - 7th (more). Hiker/lecturer/artist Lou Murray is available to
speak to church groups on her experiences of trail hiking over 10,000 miles
in the past 18 years. Lou will exhibit a selection of paintings of trail
