SUMMARY:Dismantling Racism: A Continuous Journey
DESCRIPTION:The Dismantling Racism: A Continuous Journey workshop takes place Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Towson Presbyterian Church, from 8:30 am – 4 pm, lunch included.\nThere are 4 main objectives:\n+ Continue to broaden and deepen our understanding of how racism and white supremacy shape us as individuals and as church institutions (local churches and presbytery, in particular)\n+ Focus in on institutional culture, historical harm, repentance and repair (particular areas of current importance within the presbytery)\n+ Provide opportunity for individual reflection & analysis\n+ Support the development of a personalized action plan for each participant.\nThis workshop will be co-facilitated by Ruling Elder Charese Jordan Moore (Knox) and Dr. Sarah M. Doerrer, an Instructional Coordinator with the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at Anne Arundel Community College (Maryland) and board member for the Forage Center for Peacebuilding & Humanitarian Education. We will start with a refresher of some of the common terms and approaches to understanding racism, consider our church history and culture and reflect on how we can incorporate this work into our daily lives and as church leaders.\n8:15 am : Arrival\n8:30 am – 4 pm : Workshop with lunch provided.\nIf you are a Teaching Elder with more than one year in the Presbytery or on the Commission on Ministry or Commission on Preparation for Ministry and have yet to attend one of these workshops, this event is for you. If you attended a workshop prior to 2022, then this is also time for you to attend.  Dismantling Racism: A Continuous Journey will begin with a refresher of some of the common terms and approaches to understanding racism and then move toward how we can incorporate this work into our daily lives and as church leaders. It is also recommended for congregational leaders, honorably retired pastors and members of any Presbytery committee or commission.
