SUMMARY:Vigil for Unity and Hope
DESCRIPTION:The Presbytery of Baltimore invites members of our churches and community to a Prayer Service for Unity & Hope on Thursday, April 22, online at 7 pm.\nWORSHIP SERVICE BULLETIN ( https://baltimorepresbytery.org/wp-content/uploads/VigilServiceBulletin.pdf )\n“Good morning as we reflect on the verdict of Derek Chauvin, I am filled with many emotions, sadness for the many voices and names we don’t know that have not received justice as well as relief that cities did not burn last night, and justice for the Floyd family was realized. Clearly, this is only a drop, although a large drop, in the justice spoken of in Amos 5 – Let justice roll down like a river and righteous like an every flowing stream.\nWe invite all who want to pray and celebrate this victory for an unjust death that was public. It is individuals who will change the scale of justice. When individuals act and unite in their collective power, the institutional racism in this country will be dismantled and destroyed. So come for prayer and praise as united we will call upon God to speak to each of our situations and call each of us to be actors of change and liberation for all.”\n– Rev. Karen Brown\nWorship organizers, led by the Rev. Karen Brown (Hope) and Rev. Phyllis Felton (Madison Avenue), include: Rev. Keith Paige (Cherry Hill), Presbytery Moderator Audrey Trapp (Faith), Rev. Michele Ward (Brown Memorial Park Avenue), Former Moderator Guy Moody (St. John United), and Susan Krehbiel (Presbytery staff).\nIn contacting the planning team, Rev. Brown expressed her vision for the service:\n“As we anticipate the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial, I feel compelled to worship, pray, and praise God for being God. Regardless of the verdict of this trial and future trials, I feel we are compelled to be witnesses of peace, justice, and healing. I invite all who want to pray for unity and an end to hatred and racism to join us.”\nWe invite you to join us for a time of prayer, scripture and music.\n
