Almighty One,
Ever-Present One,
Redeeming One Who Restores and Makes New,
Amid a difficult day, we have seen a climax of fear, misinformation, and brokenness play out in a violent way in our nation’s capital.
We grieve the violence, and ache amid the brokenness such violence exacerbates.
O God, you who make whole, we pray for our nation and its healing. We pray for a restoration of trust in our government, and for trustworthy leadership.
We pray for renewed personal and societal commitment to engage in civil debate with respect, refusing to resort to insults, threats, or violence.
We pray for the ability to see Christ even in the one with whom we most passionately disagree.
And we pray that we, disciples of Christ, his body at work in the world, may lead by example as we seek to live lives that speak truth, share love, pursue peace, and spread grace.
We lift our nation before you both in thanks for the tremendous blessings, opportunities, and freedoms it offers, and hope in its future.
Through Christ we pray. Amen.
