Per Baltimore Presbytery policy including the Sexual Misconduct and Abuse Policy and Procedures, and the PC(USA) [G-3.01016], completing an approved Healthy Boundaries training once every three years is required of all actively serving Teaching Elders, Retired Teaching Elders serving on the COM, COR, CPM or CTLC commissions or in congregations, Commissioned Ruling Elders, Inquirers and Candidates enrolled by the Commission on Preparation for Ministry, Certified Christian Educators, paid local church staff who work with children or youth, the presbytery moderator and vice-moderator, and specified Baltimore Presbytery program staff.
The purpose of the spiritually-based “Healthy Boundaries” program is:
- To increase awareness of the need for healthy and appropriate boundaries in the clergy/congregant or spiritual teacher/student relationship,
- To illustrate the impact of appropriate vs. inappropriate boundaries in promoting effective ministry,
- To provide clergy and spiritual teachers/leaders with guidelines and suggestions for developing appropriate boundaries and necessary self-care strategies.
