History
Thriving Leaders & Churches (TLC) was established at our March 13, 2025 Meeting of Presbytery. This commission assumes the role and responsibilities of what were the Commission on Thriving Congregations (CTC) and Spiritual Leader Development (SLD). Its members have been combined into a single commission, and can be contacted at office@baltimorepresbytery.org.
Purpose
To act on behalf of Presbytery to foster thriving leaders and churches in the Presbytery in developing a deeper sense of God’s presence, an increasingly comprehensive understanding of their faith, and rich ministries of renewal, learning, and growth in their ministry so that Churches and their leaders will be intentional in the ongoing Christian formation of their members, will worship with joy and relevance, will welcome new Christians and worshipers, will grow in generous stewardship, and will reach out to others with the Good News.
Responsibilities
- To develop and support New Worshiping Communities consistent with G-1.0104.
- To award scholarships available through Presbytery that have been assigned to the commission by the Steering Cabinet.
- At the request of the Nominating Committee to act between Presbytery stated meetings to elect members of Presbytery agencies.
- Additional responsibilities include:
- To plan and lead events, workshops, retreats, and other opportunities to facilitate spiritual growth and skills development among congregational leaders.
- To work with leaders and churches through coaching
- To provide Presbytery-wide opportunities for Youth (grades 6-12) involvement and enrichment, which includes retreats, seminars, fellowship events, Triennium, and other events
- To provide for congregational assessments and interpretations
- To form working groups.
- To expend and distribute funds as granted by the Presbytery.
- To support and work through the ministry groups.
The Commission reports to the Presbytery and is represented on the Steering Cabinet.
