From the General Presbyter
I love the Mid-Council Wednesday meetings – such good stuff comes from colleagues in the different Presbyteries.
We’ve been through a tough few weeks in the life of the Presbytery as pastors are reporting conflict with congregations, vacant pulpits, illnesses and deaths. I wonder how being angry and disagreeable helps the congregation share the Gospel, grow or thrive. There is an article one Exec cited that one in five churches will not survive this current climate. Terrible. But there is hope! One of the Execs reminded us of a youth group trope: POW, WOW and HOW.
POW: what has happened this past week or two that has come at you strong; sapping your energy or causing discouragement?
WOW: what has been surprising and wonderful in your life or in your ministry?
HOW: How has God been present in the midst of it all? Take some time, step out of the fray and ponder – especially the HOW!
