From the General Presbyter
“Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now.”
– Get Together by the Youngbloods, 1967
Really?
If you are like me, you are wondering if this might actually be the apocalypse. War in the Middle East, thousands of Palestinians starving and displaced, former President on trial in one of four criminal cases, person setting himself on fire outside the courtroom. And don’t forget mass shootings, protests, the border, book banning and on and on.
The church must be on the right side of history. I am not talking about your political views. We are a community of faith serving the Living God, through Jesus the Christ with the power of the Holy Spirit. Are those just words?
True confession: I never smoked pot or took illegal drugs for one main reason; the addicts were not good advertisers of their product. I didn’t want to look or behave like them. Are we advertising our “product” well? Do we even remember what our “product” is?
Back to basics people. “Love God and love your neighbor like yourself.” Right now. I can’t promise you will change one angry person. I can’t promise others will see your point of view. But the anger, spite, violence, fear – you don’t have to model that. You model Christ. You love, you serve, you pray, you give. Right now.
