Rev. Laurel Underwood
Please, please pray for our nation in the current crisis.
- Give thanks that our Congressmen and women are safe, especially that Senators, their staff, and the electoral college ballots are safe and secure and that our democratic process is able to move forward in accordance with the constitution’s design.
- Give thanks for all those who are calling on the rioters to go home.
- Pray that our congress, vice-president, and president will not only call on the rioters to go home, but will inform them that there is no reason for them to attempt to subvert our democratic process, for the election was in fact fair and accurately represented the will of the majority of the people, as has been determined by the courts and election officials.
- Pray that those who have believed the voices who have said the election was rigged will come to realize that the charge was false.
- Pray that the rioters will recognize that their manner of protest in breaking into the Capitol Building is not a defense of democracy, but the most un-American thing they could possibly do.
- Pray that they will see that calling for “trial by combat” and responding to that call is an act of insurrection.
- Pray that these Americans, who condemn similar language and such violent attempts to take over a democratic process in other countries, will see this rioting is anything but a “patriotic” gesture.
- Pray that law enforcement is able to clear the crowd without further injury to the rioters or the law enforcement personnel.
- Pray for those who have already been hurt.
- Pray that the rioting will not become worse as darkness falls.
- Pray that those responsible for this will be held accountable.
- Pray that attitudes have calmed and reason has prevailed by the time our new, duly-elected president is installed.
The Constitution was designed to enforce peaceful transitions of power. The model of democracy we seek to present to the world is being undermined. Our own democracy is threatened by mobs of our own people.
Please, please pray for our nation in the current crisis.
