Working groups are forming for the Reparative Justice Fund
As directed by the Presbytery’s actions on September 13th to establish the Reparative Justice Fund, the Dismantling Racism Team (DRT) is recruiting members for 3 working groups. Each Working Group is expected to have 5 to 8 members with an initial 6 month commitment. Each Working Group should have strong BIPOC representation and agree to incorporate a racial equity lens to their deliberations and recommendations. The Working Groups will be chaired by a member of the DRT, making regular progress reports to the DRT and consulting with them as appropriate.
If you are interested in serving on one of the working groups described below or want to suggest someone, please contact Susan Krehbiel, skrehbiel@baltimorepresbytery.org for more information.
Legal Working Group:
The Legal Working Group is responsible for determining the appropriate legal pathway to establish the Reparative Justice Fund in the State of Maryland, drafting articles of incorporation, and related forms, and providing legal guidance to the other Working Groups. In order to carry out its work, the Working Group will need to conduct research on the types of non-profit organizations as defined under Maryland law that best serves the intent and needs of the charitable trust.
Board Nomination Working Group:
The Board Nominations Working Group is responsible for defining the size and composition of the incorporating board, including various skills, expertise and representation needed for effective leadership and administration. This Working Group is responsible for creating the Board nomination form, proposed timeline and selection process. Once the process has been approved, this Working Group will receive Board applications and oversee the selection process for nominees to be presented to the Presbytery for approval in 2026.
Outreach & Education Working Group
The Outreach & Education Working Group will develop the messaging, materials and communication strategy to educate churches about the Reparative Justice Fund, including promoting financial contributions to the Fund . The Working Group will also develop information/guidance for churches on conducting their own historical research.
