“At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality.” – 2 Corinthians 8:14
There is something to be said about having things in common and sharing. When we give from what we have, those with fewer resources gain opportunities they might not otherwise have. Those who have been blessed with more experience the joy of knowing their gifts make a difference for the whole community. Together, we discover that abundance grows when it is shared, and all are able to participate in the bounty of the collective.

That is what Shared Ministry is all about – the bounty of the collective. The Presbytery of Baltimore through Ministry Groups demonstrates commitment to Christ’s work geographically. Each year, our six ministry groups receive a majority of Shared Ministry giving. These funds you provide open doors to mission and ministry that often could not be experienced or accomplished by a single congregation.
Across the Presbytery, Ministry Groups are living out this shared calling in diverse, creative, and contextual ways. They are nurturing youth and college ministries, supporting innovative mission partnerships, fostering congregational vitality, and equipping leaders for faithful service. Some are addressing community needs through food and housing ministries; others are building bridges through education, peacemaking, and environmental stewardship. Together, they provide spaces for worship, learning, and connection where the love of Christ is made tangible in local communities and beyond.

Beyond our local efforts, Shared Ministry giving also strengthens our global connections. Through partnerships with churches ranging from Guatemala and Cuba abroad, to the Dakota Presbytery, our congregations join hands across cultures to share faith, friendship, and learning. These relationships deepen mutual understanding and remind us that Christ’s love knows no boundaries – linking our Presbytery with communities of hope around the world.
From community kitchens in western Maryland to watershed restoration on the Eastern Shore, and from youth projects in Baltimore to cultural celebrations and leadership training across our borders – Shared Ministry giving helps congregations turn faith into action. These stories remind us that when we give together, our impact multiplies, extending Christ’s compassion and justice far beyond our individual reach.

There are many stories in the Presbytery about the impact of giving to Shared Ministry; and we hope to share more good news regularly. Don’t be surprised if some projects are in your Ministry Group! I know times are tough, but I invite you to use your imagination and reflect on the stewardship of the early church! Everyone in the community of faith gave resources needed to share the gospel and support one another. And every gift was multiplied!
Consider participating in Shared Ministry. Whatever your congregation is able to give will continue to support the amazing mission and ministry of the Presbytery of Baltimore and its local congregations!
Blessings,
– Jackie
