Summer Series: The Presbytery, the Strategic Plan and You
From the General Presbyter
Empowering leaders, Engaging churches, Embodying justice and inclusivity in the name of Christ.
The “E” words in this vision statement represent a state of being as well as action steps. The “ing” at the end of the words promotes an ongoing commitment to keeping our values and mission in front of us as we serve God in our congregations and community.
A dictionary definition of “empower” lists the word “permit.” For the church of today, this is important as we need to create space for innovation, different voices, fresh ideas and renewed energy. Through our grants and workshops, the Presbytery seeks to inspire and help leaders lean into the future with what they need to lead and encourage others to lead.
A dictionary definition of “engage” is “attract.” What would it be like for your congregation to be the “happening place to be,” with members filled with energy and hope and joy? What would it be like if your community had great things to say about your congregation and its relationship to the neighborhood? Our Ministry Groups and opportunities for Affinity Groups (across MG lines) provide grants and an opportunity to learn from each other and create critical mass for initiatives and fellowship.
A dictionary definition of embody is “give human form/shape to.” That definition needs little explanation other than the Nike slogan: “Just Do It.”
Christ is our beacon of light and inspires all of our plans and strategies. We promote and live His gospel, follow His lead and through the grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, we share this good news with others. And with God’s help, the Presbytery of Baltimore can live out our Strategic Plan to the glory of God and the work and ministry of the church!
