Description
The Peter Nord Scholarship, administered by the Presbytery of Baltimore, supports congregations—especially urban congregations—in their efforts to engage and welcome their local communities. This scholarship is designed to help churches build meaningful relationships with their neighbors and, in doing so, invite them into the life and mission of the congregation. The goal is to foster hospitality, outreach, and deeper connections between congregations and the diverse communities they serve.
Criteria
- Priority is given to urban congregations within the Presbytery of Baltimore.
- Congregations must propose initiatives that intentionally engage their local community.
- Projects should focus on hospitality, outreach, and inclusion, with the aim of inviting neighbors into the congregation’s life and ministry.
- Preference will be given to initiatives that demonstrate creativity, sustainability, and a commitment to long-term community engagement.
Use of Funds
Scholarship funds may be used for:
- Community events and outreach programs
- Hospitality initiatives that welcome new visitors and neighbors
- Marketing and communication efforts to connect with the local community
- Training and resources to equip congregation members for effective engagement
- Other expenses that directly support initiatives fostering community connection and invitation into congregational life
